Dr. Jay Whittle
Dr. Whittle did his pre-vet studies at the University of Kentucky. He then went on to study veterinary science at Auburn University, graduating in 1987. Upon receiving his doctorate, he moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, where he practiced for two years. In 1989, Dr. Whittle moved to the Chicagoland area to work for Dr. Reece at Palos Animal Hospital.
Two years later, Mill Creek Animal Clinic was opened in Palos Park. Although Mill Creek was associated with Palos Animal Hospital until 1997, it has long been an independent practice.
On a personal note, Dr. Whittle lives in Homer Glen with his wife, Jane, daughters, Olivia and Cecilia, son, Dolan, and their dogs Ricky Ricardo, Atticus, and bearded dragon, Flames.
Dr. Jennifer Deyo
Dr. Jennifer Deyo (pronounced Day-Oh), a Worth native, joined Mill Creek Animal Clinic in 2007.
She began working in the veterinary field as a teenager at Crestwood Animal Hospital, first as an assistant, and then later as a technician. It was here that she developed her love for Veterinary Medicine. Although her initial direction in college was toward the family business of teaching, she eventually realized that she belonged with the animals and headed toward the University of Minnesota (Go Gophers!) for Veterinary School.
After Veterinary school, she joined Lincolnway Animal Hospital, and now with us. We are very excited to have her. A large part of practicing medicine is communication, i.e. teaching the humans that bring our patients to us. Dr. Deyo’s teaching background has prepared her for this very important part of medicine. Combined with her genuine compassion for animals AND people, Dr. Deyo is a great addition to Mill Creek Animal Clinic.
Dr. Deyo comes from a big family which she enjoys spending time with as well as her furry family : Gabriel (rott/boxer mix), Cooper (French Bulldog), Ziva (rottweiler), Zacheus (DLH), and Pixie (DSH).
When she isn’t tied up with this gang, she enjoys reading, hiking, and playing piano.
Dr. Jennifer Duran
Dr. Jennifer Duran grew up in Chicago and has never strayed too far from her childhood home. She received her B.S. in biology and teaching certificate in secondary education from Saint Xavier University. She then attended the University of Illinois for veterinary school (Ill-INI) and graduated in 2005 with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.
Her first job after vet school was working at Banfield, the Pet Hospital for over 4 years. She saw dogs and cats, but was the primary exotics vet there and for many of the Chicagoland Banfields. Dr. Duran loves her dog and cat friends, but has a special place in her heart for exotic pets--small fuzzies, ferrets, reptiles, birds, amphibian and even fish. She custom tracked exotics her 4th year in veterinary school and externed at Midwest Bird and Exotic Animal Hospital, Brookfield Zoo, John G Shedd Aquarium and Sea World in Orlando.
When not treating her patients and educating her clients, she enjoys spending time with her three year old son, newborn daughter, Great Dane, and bunny. They enjoy watching and playing hockey and gymnastics, walking “the boys” (son and Great Dane), swimming in their pool and enjoying all that Chicago has to offer.
Dr. Duran always had a “zoo” in her home since she was a little girl. She believes it was because of always being surrounded by animals that she knew she wanted to be a veterinarian when she grew up. But not just a veterinarian, a veterinarian who could teach her clients as well; hence, the teaching degree. Now she’s all grown up and living her dream!
