Thunderstorm Season Starts – If your pet becomes anxious or fearful during storms, there are many options for your pet to feel safe.  Please schedule an appointment to discuss these options. You may want to consider trying a thundershirt.  We carry them in the clinic and will help you pick the right size for your pet!Continue to use heartworm prevention. Lawn Maintaince Starts – Be mindful of lawn care products (including fertilizer) being used on your lawn and your neighbors’.  Lawn care products can be toxic.  Call the clinic immediately if your pet ingests any lawn care  products.Continue to use heartworm prevention.  Continue to use flea and tick preventative.

Summer Travel – When traveling, be sure to have your pet’s vaccines up to date.  Contact airlines, hotels, or kennels of what is needed to stay or fly.Continue to use heartworm prevention.  Continue to use flea and tick preventative.

Fireworks – If your pet becomes anxious or fearful during fireworks, there are many options for your pet to feel safe.  Please schedule an appointment to discuss these options, your thundershirt may come in handy at this time.Heat Exhaustion – Animals can be effected by the heat, just like humans.  Keep them well hydrated and in a cool place.  Contact our office right away if you suspect heat exhaustion.Continue to use heartworm prevention.  Continue to use flea and tick preventative.

Camping – Make sure to have your pet’s vaccines up to date, especially Leptospirosis and Lyme vaccines.  These diseases can be transmitted in wildlife urine (Leptospirosis) or by ticks (Lyme disease).Continue to use heartworm prevention.  Continue to use flea and tick preventative.
September

October
Halloween Treats – Keep all candy out of reach of animals.  Chocolate is toxic to dogs.Costumes – If your pet becomes anxious or fearful of large groups, strangers, or people in costume, there are many options for your pet to feel safe.  Please schedule an appointment to discuss these options.Continue to use heartworm prevention.  Continue to use flea and tick preventative.
November
Thanksgiving Treats – Keep all candy out of reach of animals.  Chocolate is toxic to dogs.  Rich Thanksgiving food can cause vomiting and diarrhea as well.  Keep treating to a minimum.Continue to use heartworm prevention.  This should be the last month (depending on the weather) for applying flea and tick preventative.
December
